Yongchun paper weaving
Let an image find a new rhythm
A painted surface is cut and woven into a new image. Fine strips soften the picture into a rhythmic woven texture.

The story
before the object.
Yongchun paper weaving is documented in the local gazetteer and combines painting, cutting, weaving and mounting. Traditional work uses very narrow painted and plain paper strips to rebuild an image. It entered the national list in 2011. Early dynastic origin accounts are presented as traditional accounts, not used here as a confirmed invention date.
Historical source (Chinese) ↗What to look for
The woven grid changes how the picture is seen: edges soften, colours interrupt one another, and the surface reveals its construction. A beginner's broad-strip paper weave explores this idea at a different scale; it is not equivalent to the traditional fine-strip process.
The images interpret the material and mood. They are not documentation of a particular maker’s work or a technical reconstruction.

A place in your life
Let an image find a new rhythm
It can feel surprising to cut apart a picture you have just made. Weaving gives the pieces a new relationship. Try it with two chosen colours or two simple drawings: the finished image need not look exactly like either beginning to feel complete.

An experience to develop
Prepared strips and a positioning guide. Start with a broad-strip paper exercise; it is an adaptation, not mastery of the traditional fine-strip process.
